The Durham Sports Commission (DSC) created the Sports Tourism Committee and the Advisory Committee to assist the organization with economic and social impact by leading the community’s efforts to attract, support, and promote youth, amateur, collegiate and professional sporting and recreational events.
Sports Tourism Committee
The Sports Tourism Committee assists the organization with creating a sustainable and transformational sports tourism hub in Durham.
In collaboration with the DSC, the Sports Tourism Committee will assist with the following:
- Identifying and recruiting local, regional, and national events
- Collaborating on facility availability for hosting sporting and recreational events in Durham
- Managing and promoting events owned and operated by the DSC

Advisory Committee
The Advisory Committee supports the organization with community advocacy and assists with developing recommendations to create economic and social impact in Durham.
In collaboration with the DSC, the Advisory Committee will assist with the following:
- Advising the DSC and providing strategic recommendations
- Promoting the DSC and serving as community liaisons
- Collaborating with the DSC on organizational projects and initiatives (i.e., One Team, One Durham Fund)
